This book attemps to acquaint producers with the poisonous plants that are most commonly found in hay, forage or pasture and rangeland in the Great Plain region and the most common poisoning agents in feed, water, and forage that have an effect on livestock.  It also alerts producers to poisoning situations and symptoms that were previously not thought to have been the cause of health problems.

There are not many publications on this subject.  The plant identification information and the poisoning symptoms are usually not contained in the same publication.  There are no publications we are aware of that are specific to this region.  This is a complete, brief, compact publication which we believe will help producers, students, teachers, veterinarians and other interested persons and lessen the economic impact of losses to the livestock industry.

This book includes detailed descriptions, names and pictures of weeds common in South Dakota and Nebraska.  No matter who you are or where you live, noxious weeds affect your way of life.  Noxious weeds reduce productivity and the value of the land.  Any plant that spreads to cause undue economic distress can be classified as noxious.

The Field Guide to Biological Weed Control is a practical reference for biological weed control information.  Ranchers, farmers, agencies and communities can learn how to use biological weed control.  It is our vision the guide will be used to advance biological weed control as an effective component in integrated weed management strategies.  The pictures and much of the text contained in this quide are generously adapted from version 1 of "Biological Control of Weeds in the West" donated by the Western Socety of Weed Science.
